Origin Story

A reboot of Cape Comic Con

AVENGERS UNITE

For ten years, collectors, followers, and fanatics have been flocking to Cape Comic Con to visit dozens of vendors and crafters, and share their love of all things fandom. Cape Comic Con was generating enough popularity among their existing crowd, but were looking for a way to expand their event. They believe that the excitement of Comic Con is something that can be enjoyed by everyone, including people outside of their predicted demographic.

Our story began at the ground level, developing a brand identity for Cape Con through a logo reboot and promotional posters.

A Marvel to behold

Next was a partnership with Marvel Comics that resulted in a custom comic book cover for an Avengers Variant, available only at the 2015 Comic Con event. We worked with comic artist Greg Land to create the cover, featuring fan-favorite heroes and an iconic landmark in Cape Girardeau, the Bill Emerson Memorial Bridge.

THE BUILD

We developed a host of marketing materials leading up to the event, including print and digital advertising, a social media campaign, direct mail, VIP passes, and the event program. We also created dimensional graphics that appeared at local movie theaters to promote the event and exclusive comic book.

COMIC CON LIVE

We became immersed in the world of Con. The rustmedia crew manned an interactive vendor booth during the show, introducing a younger generation to the beauty of Super NES. Throughout the weekend, we had a constant stage presence with a mobile studio that allowed costumed Con-goers to capture their character with our commercial photographer. These shots we later featured in our gallery/photo studio's grand opening, The Faces of Con.

THE LEGACY CONTINUES

Cape Comic Con has a certain allure. One we can't escape if we wanted to. We continue to work with Cape Con and it's organizers to grow the event. Since our first contact back in 2014, the event has grown year to year, hitting record numbers in attendance. The annual event poster design has become a favorite, including a letterpress production and the newest edition of a Star Wars inspired design.
